Brian Green’s funeral will be held at 2pm on Tuesday 6th January at the West Lancashire Crematorium, Burscough. If anyone would like further information, or if you wish to provide your personal tribute to Brian, you can contact the celebrant, Cuthbert Jackson, by email at rev.cuthbert@gmail.com.

The Club have been informed that Brian Green sadly passed away in Southport Hospital on Sunday evening at the age of 84. As many will be aware Brian has had health issues over the last few years. However, despite not being able to play recently he was always keen to come along and support his teams when he was able.

Brian joined the club several years ago through one of our taster sessions and loved to compete. In fact we were amazed to find out that Brian was a true competitor and had had an illustrious career in sport. Brian attended Walton Grammar School and loved several sports in his earlier years. Standing at 1.66 m (5 ft 5 in) Brian was once told he was too short to be a sprinter. Despite this, at the age of 31, Brian became the fastest man in Britain, recording a time of 10.1 seconds in Bratislava. He represented England at the 1970 Commonwealth Games (Bronze in the 4x100m Relay) and then went on to represent Great Britain at the 1972 Munich Olympics. He also sprinted at the 1974 and 1978 Commonwealth Games for England. Brian also competed for a place in the Great Britain Bobsleigh team at the 1976 Winter Olympics at Innsbrook. Afterwards Brian was a physio at one of the top Rugby League clubs and then did private physio. Finally he reached his sporting peak at Ormskirk Bowling Club and really loved the opportunity to be competitive at sport once again. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and played with him. The Club will release funeral arrangements once we have them.

The Ormskirk 10k run is being hosted at OCC today. Please note that there will be road closures in place between 9:30am and 12:30pm and it will not be possible to access the site by car between 8.30am and 1.30pm. During these times avoid parking on Altys Lane or very close to the site.

Congratulations to our Ormskirk Owls team won the Maghull League ‘Tony Toal’ Knockout Cup, beating Saracens in the final held at Aughton Institute.

The grass green will actually close after the cup final on Monday evening, so it remains open for practice until then.
