Ormskirk Bowling Club

Brian’s long time life partner Carole Bownass was his sole beneficiary and had indicated that his bowls should be given to the club. Unfortunately Carole died on the 7th of January, the day after Brian’s funeral. Her sons Adam and Duncan have now carried out the wishes of Brian and Carole and seen to the gifting of his bowls (five pairs) to Ormskirk bowling club. The Club would like to express its gratitude for this kind donation in Brian’s memory.

Cuthbert, who was acting for Brian’s estate, wanted to thank all the club members who attended Brian’s funeral and escorted his coffin at the crematorium
and also to thank Dave Roper for being a link to the club during that period.

Ritchie Laird of Coronation Park BC sadly passed away recently. His funeral will be held on 11 March at 2pm. Further details can be found at https://richardlaird.muchloved.com.

We have been asked to share the following information with you for John Marriott’s funeral arrangements following his recent passing. John played for Burscough Legion for many years and was always a friendly and likeable person, and well known around the bowling circuit.

Subject: Celebration of life – John Marriott

Could you please inform all clubs of the following arrangements.

There will be a service to celebrate John’s life at St John’s C of E Church, School Lane, Burscough L40 4AE. On Thursday the 19th March at 12:00. At Johns request he would like everyone to wear no black he wanted everyone to be wearing colours if possible. You are all then invited to Hurlston Hall afterwards for a buffet and to share memories of John. If you could let me know if you’re thinking of coming back then I can get an idea for catering requirements. Thank you so much for all your support following John’s passing.  It has brought us comfort to read messages of how much John meant to everyone, thank you Lesley. X

Our Ormskirk Vikings team, which plays on a Wed afternoon in the over 55’s league, is looking for one or two extra players.

Please either contact the Club Secretary or Phil Birchall, the team captain, on 07745 372904, if you either fancy becoming a Viking or would just like more information.

The OBC Vets team who play in the Bootle Vets League (over 55’s) on a Thursday afternoon need additional players for the coming season. Anyone interested please speak to a Committee Member, even if you think you are only able to play on an occasional basis.

Both of the above are now working.

A few of our teams need some additional players for the forthcoming season, specifically Ormskirk Ospreys who play in the Maghull League on a Monday night and the Ormskirk Castle teams who play on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday nights in various leagues.

If you are a new member and would like to be considered for a team the Ospreys are an ideal starting point and any existing team players who would like to play in an additional team would be most welcome.

Please note that we have had a bad water leak in the pavilion. The water heater has been switched off and we would ask that no one uses that or the taps until we have made it safe. We will let you know when normal service is resumed.
