Ormskirk Bowling Club

Ormskirk Bowling Club is proud to host the Ormskirk West Lancs team this coming Sunday 12th April. The team is playing Middleton and the match will be starting at 2pm. Two of our own players, Mike Fagan and Ian Gill, will be playing in the home leg, as well as well known players from other local teams. Come along and cheer the team on. The Cricket Club’s bar will be open, with tea and coffee also available, and there will be plenty of seating around the green.

We have been let down several times in attempting to replace the floodlights by the away shelter on the grass green but finally we should have the lights and we have someone to install them so we are hopeful they will be working in the next few weeks.

Ormskirk Bowling Club is launching its young persons’ ‘Bowling Academy’ with sessions on this Thursday (9th April) 6-7pm and Saturday (11th) morning 10-11am. Crown green bowls is a very accessible sport which is suitable for all.

As well as being great fun for sporty children it can also engage those who do not like more physical sports such as football and rugby. Whilst the video (produced 4 years ago) above states 7-16 year olds, we will also take children who are younger or older if they would like to participate. It gives children the chance to excel at a sport and it is far easier to play at a higher level than some other sports.

These first taster sessions are free with subsequent sessions only costing £2 per child and £1 for any additional siblings. All equipment is provided, you can wear any clothing and trainers. Why not come and have a go. Most children love the skilful nature of the sport once they have a go. Further information can be found at ormskirkbowlingclub.com/junior . You do not need to register, just turn up and have a go, we really look forward to seeing you.

A big thank you to the members who helped out at the green today. The grass green is looking fantastic and the surrounds & driveway looking much tidier.

Spring has finally arrived! With this in mind we need to get our greens season ready. This Saturday we are looking to fill the potholes on the driveway (stones delivered) & tidy up around the greens-moss killer in the gutters, trimming the hedges,etc.

We would appreciate our members assistance, the more the merrier (& quicker!). Please bring wheelbarrows, spades,rakes & hedgecutters if you have them.

Congratulations to this month’s winners. Your prizes are on the way. The draw was conducted at yesterday’s Winter League game by Dean Simmonds. Your contributions are/will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you to all the members who attended last night. Minutes will be sent out by e-mail but in the meantime congratulations to all the winners with some pictures below.

Brian’s long time life partner Carole Bownass was his sole beneficiary and had indicated that his bowls should be given to the club. Unfortunately Carole died on the 7th of January, the day after Brian’s funeral. Her sons Adam and Duncan have now carried out the wishes of Brian and Carole and seen to the gifting of his bowls (five pairs) to Ormskirk bowling club. The Club would like to express its gratitude for this kind donation in Brian’s memory.

Cuthbert, who was acting for Brian’s estate, wanted to thank all the club members who attended Brian’s funeral and escorted his coffin at the crematorium
and also to thank Dave Roper for being a link to the club during that period.
