We currently rely on just one or two members who kindly take home any rubbish that is left in our bins as we do not have a bin collection. Would all members please take home their own rubbish wherever possible, just bring a bag, pop it in and take it away.
Also, please do not overfill bins if you really have to leave rubbish, we have new bags under the sink, and put cans/bottles that can be recycled in the designated bins. Rubbish should not be left in bags outside as this attracts vermin. Thank you for your cooperation.
Twenty bowlers attended the annual Chairman’s Cup on Sunday afternoon and had a great afternoon of bowling. A new format was tried with every pair playing each other, before a final featuring the top two pairs. The nine games per pair were played over five ends, as was the final.
Nick Slater and Dean Simmonds came top of the round robin format with 57 chalks. Dave Allister and Dave Hulse secured second place with a 13 point haul in their last game. They narrowly pipped Neil Kennedy and Joey Copeland for a place in the final. Ted Baker and John Leadbetter had a strong campaign as did Kev Maher and Peter Grimes.
The final was tight with two evenly matched pairs. After four ends the pairs were locked at 3 across. However, Dean made good use of the block and played two great woods on the last end, which saw his team to victory.
Thanks to everyone who came along. All monies raised will go into the club’s funds. Congratulations to Dean and Nick who were worthy winners on the day.

We had a great first Bowl for Fun session tonight. There was a massive improvement in just an hour of playing, with most attendees never having picked up a bowl before. Thanks to all those that came and braved the blustery conditions, and to all the Club Members that came along to help.
We will be holding the above competition for all members with a 1pm start, please be there 12.45pm so that we can start promptly. No registration needed just turn up on the day.
The format will be a pairs competition with pairs drawn on the day although if family members are playing they can stay as a pair. Group round robin tournament leading to a final.
£3 entry fee per player.
Hopefully all the games will be on the grass green but we will use both greens if the event is well attended.
Sadly one of our former members, Alan Mayne, passed away last week after a short illness. Even though he only played a few seasons with us, his phrases live on through our games. Shouts of ‘lazy bowl’ and ‘not gone unnoticed’ continue to be heard across the green.
Alan really enjoyed playing as part of OBC and will be missed. His funeral takes place on Wednesday 3rd June 12 noon at Altrincham Crematorium and afterwards at Bowdon Croquet Club. We will have him in our thoughts at this time and our condolences go to Ian and all of Alan’s family and friends.
We have again been let down in trying to replace the two led lights (which we have in stock) in the floodlight by the away shelter on the grass green. We would be grateful for any recommendations for an electrician with a suitable ladder (or similar) to install them, especially anyone who has an association with another club who have floodlights and may have a regular contact.
