Some Sad News

The Club is very sad to hear that Brian Carr passed away peacefully at home on 20th December 2021. Brian played at Skem Park for the pensioners team and at the Halton Castle, before leaving the Castle to become one of the founders of the (new) Windmill Bowling Club in 2001. He played alongside several members of Ormskirk BC in their former clubs.

Brian was the Treasurer at the Windmill from the Club’s formation in 2001and was instrumental in establishing the club. He helped clear the bowling green and its surrounds, as it had been disused for a couple of years at least. Utilising his building skills he was instrumental in constructing a shelter and the lean rail alongside the green.

Brian was a kind and generous man, and he had a wicked sense of humour – you were never safe if he was behind you! He also had a unique way of clearing out the clubhouse (those who played with him will know what I mean)! He was never shy of putting forward his point of view and if there was ever a ruckus on the green you could be sure that Brian would be involved!! However, he was a great support to the newer bowlers at the club and was always there with cries of encouragement and loudly whistled like a train as opposition bowls flew off the green.

Brian sadly had to stop playing before Ormskirk BC was up and running due to various ailments. A character like him is always sorely missed and our condolences go out to his wife Angela, who was also a keen bowler, and to all Brian’s family and friends.

The Requiem Mass is to be held at St Richards RC Church, Skelmersdale on Friday 7th January 2022 at 11am. The family requests that flowers are from the family only and that any donations are made to Sightsavers
