A big thank you to all the members who turned out to help repair the potholes last Saturday. It is much appreciated when so many rally round to help.
Thank you again and we will be in touch next month when the pre-season clean, tidy and pavilion treatment will be required.
We are holding a pre-season social at the Aughton Institute on Thursday 6th April at 7.30pm. The evening will commence with the presentation of trophies for last season followed by a couple of indoor bowling games and Ian’s famous horse racing game. Please bring some change if you would like to join in.
There will also be an opportunity to pay your annual membership fees, if you prefer to do this by cash or cheque rather than online.
We look forward to seeing you then. Please e-mail back if you will be attending so we can advise the venue regarding numbers.
We are looking for volunteers to move the stones from the hedges and fences to fill in the potholes on the drive. Please bring rakes and spades if you can attend.
Please do not park past the gate leading to the school field.

Following the very popular Winter Pairs Knockout competition held last year by the Maghull & District Bowling League @OBC; it is planned that this competition will be run again for 2023. Interested Ormskirk Bowling Club members that have not participated in the Winter Pairs League are also invited to enter the Pairs Knockout Competition (32 Pairs total) which will be run by the Maghull & District Bowling League on the Artificial Green over 3 Tuesdays.
The Maghull Winter Pairs League which has been held each Tuesday over the winter on our Artificial Green, is scheduled to finish on Tue 7th March. The Winter Pairs Knockout competition is planned to commence on completion of the Winter Pairs League, Tue 14 Mar 23.
The Knockout Heats will be held in 4 groups over 2 days, Tue 14 Mar 23 (am/pm) and Tue 21 Mar 23 (am/pm), with the Finals on Tue 28 Mar 23. There will be an entry fee of £2/Player (£4/Pair).
ALL dates are subject to change due to weather etc.

Congratulations to Mike Fagan & Aaron Backhouse, who yesterday won the Winter Pairs Comp by defeating Frank Houghton & Peter Grimes 21-11. Well done to all competitors.
There are to be two bowling events held soon to introduce Primary School Year 5/6 children to bowls. These will be on the mornings of Fri 3rd March and Fri 10th March. Both will be at Burscough Sports Centre. Volunteers are needed to assist, so if you would like to help out then please contact Ian Gill by email or text (iangilly66@gmail.com or 07500 918 081). The latest league tables and results have ben updated and can be viewed at Winter Singles League. In Division 1 Mike Fagan sits on top, but has played all his games and is being caught up. Favourite to win must be Steve James, so long as he doesn’t fluff up his remaining matches, although Aaron ‘Yorkshire’ Backhouse also has a chance depending on his last few results.
In Division 2 Graham Lucy is looking strong at the top but could still be caught. All to play for in these final few weeks – please get your matches in if you are lagging behind, the weather is much improved and is good for bowling!
Ormskirk Bowling Club has signed up to Easy Fundraising. This is a British Crown Green Bowling Association initiative and is used by many other clubs and organisations to help fundraising efforts. You can get more information and sign up yourself at Ormskirk BC Easy Fundraising link. You can also download an app for your phone via the app store.
It is important to note that this does not cost you anything and you are still directly buying off a wide range of popular shops (eg Tesco, John Lewis, Asda, Currys, Amazon etc). When you shop online from one of the businesses that support Easy Fundraising, then that business makes a small donation to British Crown Green and, more importantly, a larger donation to our Club. This is usually a percentage of the cost. Please go and have a look. If you were to purchase holidays or big money items online then the donation will be bigger, but, as Tesco’s say, every little helps! A club reported at the North Lancs & Fylde County AGM that they had raised £900 in one year through their members using Easy Fundraising. This is a great way to support your Club.
