Some of you may recall that our club was the subject of a photographic project sometime ago. A photographer called Michael Carney, who is based in Liverpool, came and got some great shots and these can be viewed at http://michaelscphotography.com/projects/ormskirk-bowling-club/. There is a good shot of the Phoenix team and, amongst others, Frank Cosgrove and Angie Barklem proved good subjects.
The photographer got the best side of Martin Roberts and Eric seems to have his face skillfully hidden on the shot of him! The booklet format is probably best viewed on a PC/laptop.
Just a reminder that the Chairman’s Cup competition will be held today. All abilities welcome to attend including any new bowlers who have been along to any of our recent sessions – you will be paired with one of our more experienced bowlers. Please arrive by 12.45pm so we can get started by 1pm if possible and bring £2 for your entry fee.
See below the latest newsletter from the BCGBA. You will note the article about Easyfundraising – Ormskirk BC has signed up to this and more information will be circulated shortly. Also note the donation that this club will get if you take a policy out with A-Plan Insurance – it might be worth getting a quote?
There will be a £2 entry fee per person for the above event. Please bring change if you can.

The Club hosted 27 members of the EPOTS Running Group last night, with most getting their first ever taste of crown green bowling.
There were some extremely good bowlers amongst the group and topping the first round robin groups were Mark & Oliver, Steve & Keith, and Brenda & Toby, with Graham & Jean also qualifying for the semis as the best runners up. The semis had to be run on a quickfire two end shoot out, with Graham & Jean beating Mark & Oliver and Brenda & Toby just pipping Steve & Keith. Congratulations to Toby & Brenda who won the final, just beating Graham & Jean to the title, with Brenda knocking into her short bowl and promoting it to win the game.
A great evening was had by all and let’s hope this can become an annual event.
The next of our club competitions takes place on the above date for all members and prospective new members. The format is pairs with names drawn out of a hat. Please arrive promptly so we can start by 1pm.
Look forward to seeing you then.
Two of our teams, Ormskirk Castle and Ormskirk Phoenix, have reached the final of the Aughton League 2nd Division Knockout Cup and will play each other at Scarisbrick NSC on Wednesday 20th July. Spectators are welcome but please note that only food or drink purchased at the bar can be consumed around the green – please support the club that are hosting the final. It is 8 players per team and players need to have played 3 league games to be eligible for the final. Well done and good luck to both teams.

Well done to Chris Horsfall and Susie Lawson who took the Roy Ashcroft Memorial Trophy today by beating Ian Prescott and Dean Simmonds in the final.
There was a good turnout of 26 bowlers who were divided up into three groups for the initial round robin stage. Group A was narrowly won by Pauline Snelson and Dave Hulse over Steve James and Brian Johnson who just finished second. Runaway winners in Group B were Dean Simmonds and Ian Prescott. Julie Brennan and Anne Johnson came second, just pipping Ian Gill and young Max Birch. Max was only playing his second game of bowls ever and he played really well.
Finally Group C was won by Keith Knaggs and Martin Roberts, with Chris Horsfall and Susie Lawson narrowly coming second.
The semifinals were all close run affairs. Chris and Susie narrowly beat Pauline and Dave by 7 points to 5, and in the other semifinal Ian and Dean only just pipped Martin and Keith by 5 points to 4.
The final was also a decent match but in the end Chris and Susie won by 8 points to 4 to win a thoroughly deserved trophy, and £30 in prize money.
Just a reminder the above pairs event takes place this Sunday. Please support if you can.
