Frank Allt

We have received the sad news of the passing of Frank Allt, the father of Steve Denning and who played with some of us at the Windmill. Frank was 77 years old and will be remembered as a kind, polite and gentle man who always had a positive outlook and a good word to say about people. Frank is pictured above with the President’s Day Trophy which he won with Peter Mercer in 2009. Our condolences go to all the Denning family for their sad loss.

Fantastic BBQ, Drinks and Bowls Event

Rob & Harri – Winners of the Pairs Competition

An amazing 30 people turned up for our Bowls’ Big Weekend event last night, and it was great to see so many people of all ages mixing and having a brilliant time. Some of the comments included “Really enjoyed it”, “Good atmosphere, friendly people, good laugh”, “Relaxed atmosphere, made to feel welcome”, Very well organised, everyone very friendly” and “Thanks for being boss”. All 11 of the club volunteers were fantastic and made everyone welcome and helped them with their bowling.

Congratulations to Rob & Harri who won our mini pairs tournament (commiserations to John & Cathy the gallant runners-up who just missed out) and to Paul who triumphed in the ‘Spider’ competition.

We have two more sessions as part of the Bowls Big Weekend being held on Bank Holiday Monday so if you haven’t tried bowls yet you can come and see what all the fun is about – these are at 10am -12.30pm (anyone can come but great for families) and at 2pm -4.30pm. You can register via this site or just turn up if it is a last minute decision.

Great Start in Aughton League

A great start in the Aughton League Division 2 for our three teams who all lead the way in the league after the first matches. Ormskirk Castle romped their match at home to Saracens with 7 winners.

Ormskirk Phoenix had 6 winners away at the Dog & Gun, with Andrew Arnold getting his first win and Hannah Jones having a superb 21-8 win.

Finally the other Ormskirk team had 5 winners at home on the carpet against Tute B.

Big Bowls’ Weekend

Visit our Big Bowls’ Weekend page (alongside our Home page) and book on to one of the sessions. If Members could help to spread the word through social media and word of mouth, and get their friends and family to attend that would be great. We will be doing a BBQ on the Saturday evening session and the bar is open at the cricket club.
