Ormskirk Bowling Club

A big thanks to Kevin Wilcox, who has put bolts through the bottom of the gate to ensure we do not get anyone trespassing in that way again.

We are arranging a ground force day on 9th March as there are a number of jobs that need doing before the season starts namely; tidying the pavilion after recent leak, clearing the gutters, pruning the hedges, work on and around the green. Please come along 9.30 onwards with garden tools,etc. The more we get down the quicker it will be. Also Steve will be down on the 10th March circa 10am and any additional help then would be welcome.

You can of course also view all the results, averages etc for the season for all the leagues we are in , except for the Maghull League. What a superb group of young players this Club has. Over the season 20 different children attended over 16 training sessions. 12 of our young players too part in the Ormskirk West Lancs Federation teams and 9 of our players represented Lancashire at Junior level.

At our Presentation Night all our young players attending received a certificate. Trophies were also presented for the best Pairs Average in the Junior League (Rylan Irwin) and the best Singles Average (Andrew Arnold). The best newcomer trophy went to Hannah Jones. Junior Player of the Year was Andrew Arnold, capping off a successful season after winning the 12 & Under Junior Merit Title as well.

The AGM last Monday was a great success. Members turned out in force and the Club is extremely grateful to Ormskirk CC for hosting us.

The main news is that the Club now has a new Secretary. Nigel Whitehurst has taken over from Ian Gill, following his stint as membership Secretary last year. Nigel will now do the full Secretarial role.

One other change is in terms of the Ormskirk Phoenix team, who play in the Aughton League. Martin Roberts kindly agreed to be the new Captain (taking over from Ian Gill) and John Leadbetter will be the Vice Captain.

Ian Gill is now the Safeguarding Officer and Coach for the Club, a position which is now required by the BCGBA.

Security has been stepped up at the Club with Anti vandal paint applied to the top of the gates, fence and toilet block. The Club will be taking further measures over the next week or so to close the gap under the gate.

The Club’s AGM will be held in one week’s time (21st January 2019). Members should have received an agenda but if not please contact the Secretary directly.

The AGM will be followed by the presentation of trophies for the 2018 season and a review of the season by all the captains.

Please could everyone arrive for 7pm so we can get drinks and start promptly at 7.15pm

Our Christmas number 1 on the Winter Bowling Ladder was Steve James, but as we enter the first full week of January he has had to drop down the charts as John Leadbetter has made his move on the top spot with a 21-17 win over formerly second place Nick ‘The Slaternater’ Slater.

A recent big mover has been Dave Ball, who has swum up the Ladder like a menacing great white shark, gobbling up Ian Gill and Steve James with two convincing wins. The top 8 now look like this …..

The Clubs AGM and Presentation Night has been confirmed for Monday 21st January at 7.15pm in Ormskirk Cricket Club’s Pavilion.  Please arrive for about 7pm  so we can get seated with drinks for a prompt start at 7.15pm.

Following the AGM we will be presenting trophies and awards for the 2018 season as well as recognising particular achievements.  This includes for both our junior and senior players.

The Club hopes as many members as possible can make it, whether you are full, winter or junior members. An agenda will be circulated early in the New Year.
