Very healthy positions for three of our teams at the moment. Our Ormskirk BC team is sitting in 2nd place in the Ormskirk Premier League. In the top division of the Westhead League our Ormskirk Millers team is in third place and Ormskirk Castle leads the way in Division 2. Up to date tables and stats can be found on http://bowlsnet.uk/Home
Earlier this week the club hosted a party of young adults from West Lancashire College who had a variety of special needs. It was a very rewarding experience to see the young people, and their carers, all having a go at bowling. Thanks to Danny Jones, Steve Walker and Linda Farmer who came along to help.
The Club will be holding more taster sessions on Thursday (7.15pm) and Saturday (2pm), so if you fancy having a go at crown green bowls come along and have a go – its is free. We had 12 people along for our last session all of whom had a great time and some have now joined.
If any club members would like to come along to assist you would be more than welcome.
Can anyone spot the difference? For anyone who doesn’t realise which is which, the one on the left is Chris ‘The Horse’ Horsfall and the one on the right is Pootle (from the Flumps, which our Chairman must have spent too much time watching in his youth!). Pootle is a cracking bowler…..
The Ormskirk Bowling Club derby in the Ormskirk League was played out last night in gale force winds, which certainly hindered the quality of the bowling. The OBC team just ran out winners after taking 7 of the 10 matches. Some pictures are set out below.
The two taster sessions held the last two Thursdays have been a great success. Thanks must go to Eric, Angie and Tash for their help. The first Thursday 5 people attended, but last night 12 people of all ages came along and we had a great night, ending in a mini competition won by Brian and John.
The Club is running another taster session tonight for anyone that would like to have a go. Bring a friend along to try our wonderful green, or come along yourself and lend a hand.
The winter ladder reached its conclusion today. The semi final between Don Morris and Ian Gill was a tense affair. Ian went 16-7 up but Don took the block and hardly looked back with a series of devastating leads, and he took the game 21-17.
On to the final and it was fitting that it was between the two who finished 1 and 2 at the top of the ladder. It was Steve James who started well and this time Don was unable to close the gap. Steve ran out to win 21-12 and take his first ever bowls trophy.
The winter ladder will come to its slightly delayed conclusion today. At 12.30 the semi final match between Ian Gill & Don Morris will take place followed by the final, with the winners of the semi final playing Steve James. Come down and enjoy the action!
The Club will be hosting taster sessions for anyone who hasn’t played before on the dates shown below. Please encourage any friends or relatives to come along and have a go. If any club members would like to come along and lend a hand they will be more than welcome.
