Festival Bowling Today

As it is family day today at the Beer, Wine and Food Festival at the Cricket Club, we will be throwing open our doors to anyone attending the Festival that would like to come along and have a go at bowling.  If anyone would like to come along and assist or have a bit of a game you would be welcome.  We will be there from approximately 12.30 to 3.30pm.

Fantastic Fundraiser

It was an absolutely brilliant day’s bowling today in our special fundraising competition. It looks like about £200 was raised, so a big thank you to everyone that came. Congratulations to Peter Ashcroft and Dave Ball who beat Pete Bailey and Kevin Wilcox in the final. I will put some more pictures on our Facebook group in due course.

Superb first Chairman’s Cup

The weather was kind as 24 of our members gathered for our inaugural Chairman’s Cup competition on Sunday. With a mixture of young and old, experienced and inexperienced, it was sure to be an interesting challenge.  Pairs were drawn and divided into three groups with the winners from each group going through to a semi final, along with the best runner up.

Group A was close, but eventually won by our Chairman Steve James playing with newcomer Danny Jones.  Close second though was Peter Ashcroft and Mike Fagan and they also qualified for the semis as the best runners up.

In Group B the wins were shared out but it was Ian Gill & Chris Horsfall that came through to win, but only after beating Joey & Lily Copeland 7-1 in the final match.  In Group C it looked like Chris Sandison would be having to play with 4 woods but James stepped up from the sidelines to fill in and turned out to have a decent eye.  It wasn’t enough to stop experienced bowler Dave Ball from taking the Group with his partner Dave Hulse.

So on to the semis and they were fairly one sided.  Steve & Danny crashed out 9-1 against a very consistent Peter & Mike and in the other semi Ian & Chris surprised many with a fine 9-4 win over the two Daves.

The final saw some fine bowling with Ian & Chris eventually taking the title 11-7 against Mike and Peter.dscn4125

Promotion

Fantastic achievement for our Friday night side who last night achieved promotion from the 2nd Division into the top division of the Westhead League by overcoming a depleted Stanley Arms team.  We will have to wait until next week’s clash between the Stanley Arms and Village Inn to see whether we have achieved top spot or not.  Well done to all players who have turned out over the season.

This follows hot on the heels of our Ormskirk League side who finished third in the Premier Division.  Pretty good for our inaugural season on our new green and with plenty of new talent coming through the future is bright.

Club Competition Event

The Club will hold its first competition (Chairman’s Cup) for its members on Sunday 11th September and all are welcome to attend, whatever ability you are.  This will start at 1pm, so please arrive promptly so we can proceed quickly with the draw.  Entry will be £2 per person, with monies paid out as prizes and some retained for trophies.  Pairs will be drawn out of the hat from those there on the day (so you don’t need to bring a partner) and matches will be round robin.  If there are young players who would like to play with their relatives this will be accommodated.  The Club looks forward to seeing as many members as possible there on the day as this will be a friendly afternoon where everyone can come and enjoy the bowling. Contact Ian Gill if you have any queries.IMG_1744

Waterloo Tickets

The Club has secured 12 free tickets for the Waterloo Handicap Final Day (Wednesday 21st September) thanks to our sponsors Co-op Funeralcare.  We have had a few people interested so far for what is one of the biggest days in the crown green calendar.  The final day will be broadcast live on ITV4 but it is far better sampling the atmosphere at the event itself.  If you are interested in attending please let Ian Gill know as soon as possible.  We will try to car share and arrange lifts between ourselves.

The event is held at the Waterloo Hotel, Blackpool and the final day will see the 4 quarter finals, two semis and the final itself being played, so you get a full day of entertainment.

Social Bowling

Just a reminder that we have set aside Monday and Tuesday afternoons for members to turn up and do some social bowling, from 2pm.  Numbers haven’t been that great so far so we might review if these time are convenient.  Look out for an email or some form of communication in due course.
