On the move and progress update

All the tools and equipment have now been moved from the Windmill to our new storage container at the new greens.  The old benches have also been moved but will require some renovation.  All those with any woodworking skills please let us know!  The pavilion that we took down and moved from the Windmill will need erecting and we are initially targeting next weekend to do that.  Could as many members as possible come along to lend a hand?  More details to follow soon. The Cricket Club will also be having a ‘groundforce day’ next Saturday and it would be good to lend a hand to our neighbours once we have finished our own works.

The toilet block has arrived but will be taken back as we are not satisfied that it is up to standard.

The grass green is being shaped at the moment and will be seeded shortly – the crown looked a little severe so we have asked for it to be taken down a bit.  Mallinsons are doing a marvelous job though.  Not sure when the carpet is arriving for our artificial green – hopefully it will be in the next week or so.  We won’t be able to use it straight away though as the tarmac will need laying first.

Great meeting

Last night when we met to give out fixtures and an update to members it was really pleasing to see 7 new people (all beginners) turn up wanting to join and come along to get some coaching. This club will grow and grow and we have good cause to be really optimistic about the future. We are now up to about 60 members.  We just need to get our greens ready now!!!

Halton Castle in trouble

Marstons pub company are looking to sell the Halton Castle in Westhead (near Ormskirk) and, because they want to sell it with vacant possession,  they are giving the bowling club notice to quit.  We should all get behind the Halton Castle Bowling Club (particularly as they have supported us with funding for our new pavilion) and make our displeasure known via the press and social media to Marstons.  It would be a real shame to lose yet another green locally.

Small pavilion on the move

The small pavilion at the Windmill was dismantled this afternoon. At one stage it was looking a bit dicey as to whether it would come down but Frank from Mallinsons came and saved the day. Big thanks to those that helped – Mike Needham, Ken & David Knowles, Steve James, Ian Gill, and (latterly when most of the work had been done) Steve Denning. Special thanks to Frank Garner from Mallinsons. It will be transported to the Cricket Club tomorrow.  Anyone available to put the shed segments on the vehicle at 12.30 is more than welcome at the Windmill.

Help Needed

This week, possibly on Thursday morning, we will be dismantling the pavilion at the Windmill.  Mallinsons will then transport it for us to the new green where it will be used as the away team shelter.  Can you assist in taking it down?  Please contact Ken Knowles on knowles159@hotmail.com if you can as any help will be gratefully received – many hands make light work!!

Latest update on our greens

Now the weather has improved progress is speeding up. The bases for the paths have been laid with the exception of the cricket club side. The base has also been put in for the pavilion that we are bringing from the Windmill.  All the earth needed has been put on the grass green and the sand needs spreading and working in. Latest pictures below.
