Winter Pairs Rules 2021-22

Format for the OBC Winter Pairs League

  • The league will consist of 2 divisions :
  • Weekend Division – will consist of those pairs who have indicated   a preference or need to play over the weekends
  • Mid-Week Division – will consist of those pairs who have indicated a preference or need to play during the week

Note: Pairs are not constrained to only play during their preferred period. However, the Mid-week Pairs should give priority on the green to the Weekend Pairs during the weekends.

  • The League will take place on the OBC Artificial Green.
  • An entry fee of £6 per pair, which will provide 1st and 2nd prizes for both divisions. For details of how to pay please see below.
  • Prize format (assuming the 20 pairs registered) will be £40 for the winning pairs and £20 for the 2nd place pairs. Any additional entry fees from pairs joining the league at a later date will be awarded as prizes for 3rd 4th etc.
  • Pairs may challenge any other pair in any order within their division.
  • Pairs should play each other Pair in their division once over the winter.
  • NOTE: If time and circumstances permit (weather, Covid restrictions, rate of play etc.) a decision may be made at a later date to extend a division to play each other twice.
  • Only the result from the first game against an opposing pair will count towards the Results Table.
  • Games are 21-up.
  • Who starts with the block should be decided randomly, i.e. by the toss of a coin.
  • Results (including names, score and date played) should be sent to Martin Roberts (roberts.martin@btconnect.com) by email. This is the responsibility of the winning pair.
  • One point will be awarded to the winning pair.
  • The League winners will be the pair with the highest number of points/wins.
  • In the case of a tie, the highest aggregate will determine the position order of the tie (Aggregate being “All chalks scored for” minus “all chalks scored against”). If the aggregates are also equal, the result will remain tied with joint winners.
  • The game results and results table will be updated each week (usually Sunday evening) and published on the OBC website.
  • The OBC Pairs League ends on 31st March 2022 – any incomplete games will be excluded from the results.
  • Additionally if circumstances permit, a playoff from the top 2 pairs from each division for the prestige of Overall OBC Winter Pairs Champions 2021/22 should take place.
  • The rules may be amended and tweaked to suit situations that may arise through the season – competitors will be notified of any such changes.

  • By Cheque, payable to Ormskirk Bowling Club. Either hand or post to Martin Roberts, 20 Lynwood Avenue, Aughton, Ormskirk. L39 5BB

Please indicate clearly which pair(s) the payment is for.

  • Cash. In an envelope clearly indicating which entry fees the payment covers and hand directly to me. Please do not leave cash in the Pavilion.
