Congratulations to this month’s winners. The draw was conducted at last weeks Maghull League Event and was made by Mike Fagan.
To those existing and new members who would like to support the club, details to join and pay £5 a month per ticket are on the 100 Club tab on the club website. Your contributions are/will be greatly appreciated.
We will make the October Draw at the club’s Presentation Night on 24th November.
Lots of jobs were being done today, including seeding the green, treating the shelters, sawing up planks for the benches and mowing the surrounds. A big thanks to all the volunteers who helped today.
Our new shelters have arrived and are looking good. Some painting/treating has started already and this is needed on all our sheds/shelters. Thanks to all those that have been down already to do a bit.
We have 2 new shelters in place and with the weather set fair for Saturday, Sunday & Monday, (matches on Tuesday) we are looking for volunteers to help paint the new and old shelters.
Martin has put a plan of what’s required in the hut on the far left of the artificial green (next to the container) together with paint and brushes-so please tick/mark off the part you have done. Code for that hut is 14714. Please clean and replace brushes and lock the hut if you are the last one there.
The Cuprinol Shades Seasoned Oak paint is for the new shelters and the rest is for the others. You may need a screwdriver to open the tubs of paint.
After our most successful season we have a chance to celebrate our achievements at the above event. There will be a presentation of all our trophies, both club and league, and some fun bowls games to participate in. We will also have a raffle and would be grateful of any donations from members as prizes. All captains are welcome to give a short reprise of their season should they so wish.
We look forward to welcoming as many members as are able to attend so please note the date in your diaries. Please bring some loose change for the night’s activities.
A big thank you to everyone who turned up on Saturday to help with tidying the surrounds and digging out the new shelter locations. As a result we completed the work just before the rain started!
As winter approaches a reminder that if you are leaving the grounds late and there is no one else around at the bowling or cricket clubs please close the cricket club gate and put the padlock on. Thank you.
There were 16 entries in the comp which was a straight knockout playing to 21 up. The Prize Money was Winner £20, Runner up £10 kindly donated by E & A Barklem.
The green was very soggy due to the very heavy rainfall overnight, the day saw a few showers but overall it was a dry day with some sunny spells.
The 1st round saw Paul Morley, Peter Bailey, Graham Kilpatrick, Alan Webster, John Leadbetter, Mike Fagan, Dave Roper and Nick Slater go through to the next round (quarter finals).
The Quarter Finals, saw Paul Morley, Graham Kilpatrick, Mike Fagan and Nick Slater go through to the next round (semi finals)
In the Semi Finals there was a very close game with Graham Kilpatrick beating Paul Morley 21 – 19 coming from 18- 10 down, Nick Slater beat Mike Fagan 21 – 16.
Final – this was a very good final to watch, Nick Slater went into the lead with some excellent bowling but Graham Kilpatrick fought back to win 21 – 20 after being 18 – 10 down.
The outstanding player of the day was Graham Kilpatrick.
Thanks to all who took part and helped marking, measuring etc, overall a very good day.

It was the Aughton Seniors League Finals day on Friday 22nd Sept 2023. In the singles our only representative, Mal Lea, lost a close semi final to Craig Puncheon (Aughton Inst.) 21-18 .
In the pairs Mal again played with 3 pairs representing OBC. The quarter finals brought together Mal & Roy Lea v Peter Grimes & Marg Copeland the latter winning 21-17. Dave Hulse & Nick Slater beat S Ball & A Owen (Mere Brow) 21-11 in another. Unfortunately the draw was not kind and Dave & Nick and Peter & Marg played each other in the semi finals with Dave & Nick coming out on top.
Dave Ball & John Makin Coronation Park awaited in the final. At halfway the match was extremely tight with the score being 11 across. It was definitely a game of two halves though as Dave & Nick revved up and produced a turbo charged performance to draw away and win 21-11 and were confirmed as the Seniors Pairs winners for 2023. This comes on top of other really good results for the club in both the League and Cup competitions. What a season!!
Joey Copeland, Captain of our Ormskirk Castle Ormskirk League team was presented with the A Division trophy after the Lethbridge Cup final. The team won the division by a massive margin and are now promoted into the Premier Division. Joey is shown below being presented with the trophy by Jim Gray from the League Committee.
