All the Club’s fixtures for the coming season have now been put on to the Club’s Calendar on this website. Use the ‘schedule’ view to see a list. The upcoming fixtures will be displayed on the sidebar on this Homepage.
Members should note to not rely on the start times shown, the official fixtures should be used for this and if you are at all unsure then please contact your captain. It will, however, give you a good view of when the greens are in use in the various afternoons and evenings.
The grass green will open for practice at 12 noon tomorrow (Friday 25th March). Eric has been working hard to prepare the green and will be improving it further as the season continues.
The club will be starting its popular junior sessions soon with a special session to be held on Saturday 2nd April at 10am. Thereafter junior sessions will be held on Thursday afternoons at 6pm starting on Thursday 14 April.
Sessions with local primary schools have been held before Christmas, and an indoor schools tournament is currently underway, so we are hopeful of some new players starting this year. If anyone knows of any young people between the ages of 7 and 16 who would like to give the sport a try then get in touch via the form on the Junior section of our website or bring them along to a session. Anyone starting will be made more than welcome.
Crown green bowls is a sport that young and old can compete against each other. It is also a great way of making new friends and getting some gentle exercise. Each junior session consists of a variety of fun games and, as you improve, you will get the chance to play friendly matches as part of our Junior team, the Ormskirk Vikings. Sessions are run by a trained coach.
The new club shirts have arrived. They can be picked up at the green tomorrow (Friday 18th) from about 2.30pm – 4pm, or on the social night on Tuesday 29th March. If you cannot make tomorrow, and would like your shirt earlier, then contact Ian Gill and you can arrange to pick it up from his house in Ormskirk.
As discussed at the AGM we are holding the above event as an opportunity to get together before the start of the season. There will be an opportunity for those members who do not wish to pay their annual subscriptions online (which is the preferred option) to pay by cash or cheque.
We will be having a game of Bingo with prizes for those who wish to take part.
Please note that the committee will be meeting from 7pm-8pm so all officials and captains of all teams are invited to attend this and an agenda will be sent out to you all today.
We look forward to seeing many of you on the night.
A much deserved award at the Club’s AGM last night was the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ Award, which went to Marg Copeland. A hefty round of applause greeted this award, as Marg puts so much effort into playing in many of our teams, keeping us stocked with tea/coffee/milk, tidying up the clubhouse, helping out with our events and, most importantly, supplying sweeties to the teams she plays in!
