Ormskirk Bowling Club

The Club is very proud to see 8 of its young players representing Lancashire Juniors today against Derbyshire at Coppull Conservative Club. Good luck.

This evenings junior and taster bowling sessions have been cancelled due to the cold damp weather. Hoping for better weather next week!

Edge Hill University students enjoyed a great crown green bowls taster session at our club tonight. A big thanks to Edge Hill Students Union who helped organise the event (especially Dan and Amanda) and the Club members who helped out.

The students enjoyed games of spider, bowls cricket and using the target wedge. One student may now even look to start up a bowling society.

Let’s help save the Waterloo, any donation however small will help. This is the Wembley of crown green bowls.

Thank you to all members who have already paid their annual subscriptions for the year. If you have not yet paid and you are not intending to join this year please can you let me know so that I can amend the membership records accordingly.

The committee has agreed that any members who play for a team will not be selected if they have not paid their annual subscriptions by 31st May. Please make arrangements via the club website to pay online (preferred) or by cheque. Any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

The club will be doing a special session for Edge Hill Students on Thursday evening starting at 6pm.  There may be quite a few students coming along so if any members are available to help it would be much appreciated

The taster session which was going to be run on Thursday evening is cancelled and will be moved to the following week.

The junior session is also cancelled.  A special training session will be held before Sunday’s Federation matches and parents will be contacted directly about that.

The weather seems to have improved so the junior bowls session is on at 6pm followed by the taster session at 7pm.

Weather permitting, the club will be holding a further taster session on Thursday evening (25 April) at 7pm. Anyone who wants to have a go at bowling please come along, all equipment provided. All those who attended last week really enjoyed it and intend to come back for a further go.

Our Ormskirk team maintained their grip on the top of the Ormskirk Premier League tonight, with a fine 11-1 win against Our Lady’s from Formby, who did not travel well onto our carpet. It was so nearly a clean sweep until the last match where ‘The Horse’ just fell at the last fence in a narrow defeat to John Stewart under the lights.

The Ormskirk Castle had the opposite result at the Skem Park fortress of the Rebels, who kept an ominous 4 points behind the league leaders. Chris Butler was the only winner.

It was great to see both greens in use, with Hurlston Hall using the grass green as a temporary home whilst sorting out the problems with their own green.
