Club to host Federation Fixture

The Club has the honour of hosting its first ever match in the Federation of Crown Green Bowls on Sunday 23rd June.  The match will start at 2pm and the Ormskirk West Lancs will be playing Leeds B.  Two players from our Club, Steve James and Ian Gill have been selected as part of the 12 strong home team.
Firstly it would be great if as many as possible could come along and cheer on the team, as Leeds are sure to bring quite a vocal support.  Secondly it would be fantastic if we could have a few volunteers to sell drinks to those on the day, set seats out etc (from about 1pm) and a PA announcer.  If we could have as many as possible we could do a few shifts.  We also aim to get the club looking as good as possible beforehand.
If you would be willing to volunteer on the day please could you let Ian Gill or Nigel Whitehurst know and a list will be compiled of those able to help.

Vikings scalp depleted Saracens

Our junior team pulled of a great victory today to maintain their grip on the top of the junior bowls league.  Chris and Lily won their singles convincingly against inexperienced opposition.  Alex Dougan made his debut at number 3 against another new young bowler, Michael Hannah.  Alex performed really well and won his first ever singles game 21-9.  Both of these players will be ones to look out for in the future given how well they played.

The last singles had to be conceded as the Saracens only had three players but it gave Maddie a chance to have a practice game against Ryan.

The pairs saw Holly & Lucy take on Connie & Edith.  A good match saw Holly & Lucy run out 21-13 winners.  Again, being one short, the Saracens had to concede the last pairs game.  It gave Harry & Matthew a chance to play Michael Hannah & Graham Pickavance (Graham pretending he was young again). In a very sporting contest Harry & Matthew came from being well down to take the game.  Once again, though, Michael showed he is one to watch for the future.

Vikings pillage the Bandits

Our junior team, the Ormskirk Vikings, started off the season with a fine win away at the Botanic Bandits this morning.  Three of the singles games were won, with Rylan, Lily and Holly all getting fine wins, and Chris Farrell just missing out 21-16 against their strongest player, Harry Prescott.

Into the pairs and Lucy & Darci went down fighting against Joe & Lucy.  The grand finale saw Harry playing with debutant Matthew against a strong pairing of Harry Prescott & Ben Haskayne.  Needing to win to secure the 3 points, our young boys played really well and ran out 21-15 winners.  Full tables and averages can be found on Bowlsnet.

Player of the Day

Well done to Lily who was made player of the day for the Lancashire Juniors home team today. Lily put on a marvellous performance against a much older player and only lost to 17.

Brother Harry was Lancashire’s number 1 today, and also played well against older opposition.
