Bowls Ladder – end of month report

The bowls ladder seems to have been a great success so far, we are now up to 27 members in it and that number is growing all the time.  With just under a month of games played there has not been a radical change in the make up of the ladder.  Matthew Gill took over at the top after mauling his dad 21-8 and has yet to be toppled off his throne, despite several trying.  The biggest movers have been Don Morris, who has just reached the number 10 position to start fighting it out with the big boys, and, lower down the ladder, Peter Sephton has also been moving up before being stopped in his tracks recently by Kevin Wilcox, 21-14.

Biggest win goes to Don Morris, 21-6 against Kevin Wilcox, but the suprising thing has been the number of very close games – two 21-20 and several 21-19.

As we enter November the ladder has been reset, remember you need to play one game in a calendar month or you drop down two places – only Julie Brennan fell foul of this in October.  Can Matthew Gill be toppled off the top, will Dave Ball edge into the top three, will Don Morris be able to sustain his rise up the ladder?

The ladder is open for all members to join, if you wish to do so just let Ian Gill know and you will be added to the bottom and you can try and work your way up.

Playing in the Mist

It was really atmospheric playing on the artificial green today. The misty rain was settling on the surface like a heavy dew and the bowls left clear lines on the green, as can be seen on the photo.image.jpeg

We have reached our Century!

100-image

Brilliant news – we are now over the 100 member mark, 101 to be exact.  Congratulations to Jonathan Fenney who joined today as our 100th member, followed seconds later by Graham Fenney. This is a really amazing achievement as our target was to get to this in 2 years.  So far we have 68 full members and 33 winter members.  Keep spreading the word.

Green Access

Please note that over the next few days (Wed – Fri) it will be necessary to enter via the pedestrian gate on Brook Lane (diagonally opposite the vehicular entrance) and park on the street. This is due to the construction works that are being undertaken by the Cricket Club.  Things should be back to normal next week.  Please continue to take great care near the construction works at all times.

Club Growing & Growing

Our Winter Bowls Ladder has now grown to 25 competitors and is really taking off.  Our total winter membership alone is up to 29 people, on top of our 68 full members.  This is an amazing achievement in just our full season.  Anyone else wanting to join up just needs to get in touch – can we get up to 100 members soon?

Monday Night Bowling Team

There has been some interest for setting up a team to play in the Maghull League on a Monday evening next season (May-September).  Can any members who may be interested in playing in a new team please let Ian Gill know.  We have about 4 players so far interested, but need about another 10 to allow for holidays/availability etc.

Should any members who haven’t yet played in one of our teams who would like to join any of our existing teams on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday also please let Ian know so we can get an idea of numbers for next season.

Winter Bowls Ladder up and running

The Winter Bowls Ladder is now up and running with the ladder published on this site under the ‘Winter’ tab.  Anyone wishing to join the ladder can do so at any time but will need to start at the bottom. One game has been played already, with Ian Gill going top after defeating Steve James 21-11.  The rules are also published on this site under the ‘Winter’ tab.

Winter Bowling

Due to the fact that our toilet block is not yet up and running we won’t be running a winter league just yet.  However, we will be running a ‘Bowls Ladder’ through the winter months.  This will be similar to squash ladders – ie you challenge someone above you on the ladder and arrange to play within a couple of weeks at a date and time to suit.  Full details & rules will be put on a winter bowling page shortly and we hope to get going by early October.  This is included within your membership and there will be no extra cost.  Anyone not already a member who would like to take part can pay the Winter membership fee, which is £25.  This also entitles you to play on the green at any time with other members.

Anyone wishing to take part should give their names to Ian Gill before the end of September.  Phone numbers will be given to other ladder members and an updated ladder published every week on this website.  Initial placings will be based upon experience/league averages etc.  Anyone joining after the start will have to begin at the bottom of the ladder.
