Ormskirk Bowling Club

We had a strong turnout of 30 members to last night’s event at the cricket club. Some of the captains gave a review of their season and this was followed by the presentation of trophies. Steve James won the Player of the Year for an impressive 41 wins out of 47 games played and Haydn Preece won the Chairman’s Award for his help in co-ordinating the greens team this year.

The evening concluded with the usual competitive bowls games which were won by Kevin Maher and Dean Simmonds.

Congratulations to this month’s winners your prizes are on the way. The draw was conducted at last night’s Presentation Evening by Ian Prescott. To those existing and new members who would like to support the club, details to join and pay £5 a month per ticket are on the 100 Club tab on the club website. Your contributions are/will be greatly appreciated.

We have a couple of teams who are desperately short of players for next season and need to be able to confirm in January that they can field a team.

Ormskirk Academy play in the Aughton District Seniors League on a Wednesday afternoon from April to August 1.30pm-4.30pm. Age criteria is 55 and over.

Ormskirk Vets play in the Bootle & District Vets League on a Thursday afternoon similar dates and times and also age 55 and over.

If you meet the criteria and are interested or just want to have a chat about it please speak to a committee member and we will be happy to provide more information.

Please refrain from parking on the grass now that the weather is deteriorating. It is starting to churn up and will not recover if we do not protect it. There should be sufficient parking on the hard surfaces.

There has been a lot of work going on preparing the grass green for next year. The first stage was verti draining followed by seeding and top dressing. Regular mowing and sorrelling throughout the winter should provide a fabulous surface for all members to enjoy next season.

Thanks to Andrew Church for carrying out the work and Haydn Preece for co-ordinating together with the greens team who have worked hard this year under Haydn’s guidance.

We will be holding our annual presentation as above to celebrate this years’ winners detailed below. There will be an opportunity for the captains of all teams to give a brief recap of their season and we will also be holding the usual (fiercely competitive) bowls target games with prizes for the winners.

Please note that as the cricket club are hosting the Ormskirk 10k run this Sunday there will be no car access to the ground between 10am and 12 noon.

The artificial green is going to be sprayed this afternoon at approx 3.30pm and will be out of action until tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

The grass green is closed for winter with immediate effect. Works will be carried out today and next week. The artificial green is open as normal but may need to be closed for moss killer spraying temporarily in due course.
