Official opening tomorrow

Just a reminder that John Parrott will be opening our new bowling greens at 11am tomorrow (Sunday). A few of us will be arriving at 9.30am to make sure everything is set up and tidy, and we all know what we are doing.  If any members would like to come and assist you will be more than welcome, and we are also asking members to bring along a bit of food for the buffet if they can.  If everyone else could please arrive for about 10.45am so we can cut the ribbon on time.  See you all tomorrow.

Vikings take out the Warriors

A good win today for our junior side, the Ormskirk Vikings against the Burscough Warriors. We won three of the four singles, with Jazmin, Chris and Lily all doing well. In the pairs it was one win apiece but both were close games. Tasha and Brandon won 21-19, but Emma and James just lost 21-20. Full results, averages etc on Bowlsnet.

County Success

Well done to the five junior players (Emma Denning, Jack Denning, Tash Hauley, Emma Gill and Matthew Gil) from our Club who played for the Lancs Junior team last weekend against Cheshire in the away team. Overall the team won the away leg and there was a great team spirit. Matthew Gill also had the honour of captaining the exam for the first time.

Details of Official Opening Event

The programme for our opening event on Sunday 26th June is set out in the attached document – Programme for Opening Event

If you are a member please attend this event if you can as we really want to get a photograph of as many members as possible with John Parrott that we can put in our clubhouse and look back on in years to come.

It would be great if members could bring some food with them for the buffet (anything edible will do) and arrive a bit early if possible to help with setting out chairs/tables etc.

10 out of 10

Congratulations to our Ormskirk League team who had 10 out of 10 winners tonight against a decent Burscough Legion team. The best winner on the night was Paul Makin (21-8) and Steve James produced a captain’s innings, winning 21-10.

Tomorrow (Wed) sees our A and B teams in the Aughton League play each other, following which (9ish) we are asking all Members to come and see if they can do anything to help for our grand opening.

John Parrott – Official Opening

We are delighted to announce that our new bowling facilities will be officially opened by John Parrott MBE on Sunday 26th June at 11am.  We are planning several activities including a draw to play against John and quick competitions that bowlers (or anyone really) of any ability can enter.  All members and local people are welcome to attend and a full programme will be published shortly. We would like a photo on the day of all our members so please put the date in your diary and attend if you can.

There will be a meeting held up at the bowling greens (if the weather is ok) for all members to attend to find out more, and if possible to offer a bit of help to get things ready, on Wednesday (15th) at 9ish (upon the finish of the Ormskirk A v Ormskirk B game on the green).  Please attend if at all possible as we want to make this event as special as possible.

For those of you that didn’t know John used to play crown green bowls as a teenager with his father in Wavertree, Liverpool, and was a quarter finalist in the Junior Waterloo.  He only tried snooker when the green was closed due to rain one night – the rest as they say is history.  John is now an Honorary Patron of the British Crown Green Bowling Association and a great ambassador for the sport.

Coaching Sessions

Members are reminded that coaching sessions are being held on Thursday evenings, weather permitting.  Junior coaching for 8-16 yr olds is from 6pm to 7.15pm and following this there is a coaching session for adults.  Feel free to bring a friend if they want to give it a go.  One of our new members, Stephen Bagot, has already played in one of our teams and won his match away at Saracens, so don’t feel afraid about giving  league bowling a go, particularly if you like a bit of competition.

If members want to have a bowl at other times, and don’t have any bowls, please contact Ian Gill for details of how to access club bowling equipment.

For details of when matches are being held on the greens see ‘forthcoming events’ at the right hand side of this page or consult the fixture lists on this site.
