Path Laid

This evening Steve James and Ian & Matthew Gill laid flags to form the path to the store so that the mower and new ‘Hoover’ can be put in there. Not a bad job for amateurs, but it was 2 hours of backbreaking labour!

Junior Match

The Ormskirk Vikings christened the new green with a match against the Scarisbrick Saracens on Saturday. The team included some players who hadn’t played much yet this season, plus we were still getting to grips with the new surface,  Unfortunately we lost all our singles, but took one of the doubles, with Jack Denning and James Fairley (on his debut) getting the victory. Some pictures of the action are below.

Great first Junior Session

The Club held its first junior coaching session on the new green on Saturday morning. After carefully changing footwear to prevent grit getting on the green, the players tried out the target wedges and mats. James Fairley took the player of the day trophy.

Lancashire Juniors

Four members of our club (Ryan Maughan, Emma Gill, Natasha Hauley and Jack Denning) turned out for the Lancashire Junior team today at Coppull against a very strong Staffordshire side. None of them won (in fact the whole home team of 12 players lost) but Emma Gill got the Player of the Day trophy.

Stretching out the carpet

The carpet has been laid and they are now stretching it out to ensure it is taught.  This will need to continue on Friday as it is quite a big job.  Action packed video below!

Carpet going on

The carpet is now being laid.  This should be finished by the end of the week. Please do not use or go on the green yet though as we have to wait until the tarmac is laid. As soon as it is usable Members will be informed and we will have a special session.

Lancashire Junior Team Selection

Four players from our Club will be in the Lancashire Junior Team (Home Team) against Staffordshire that will play at Coppull Conservative Club next Sunday afternoon.  Congratulations to Tasha Hauley, Emma Gill, Ryan Maughan and Jack Denning. Federation Success

Well done to our junior bowlers who represented our Club in the Ormskirk West Lancs Junior and Youth Teams today.  They played at two greens at Thornhill, near Dewsbury in deepest, darkest (and rather cold and drizzly) Yorkshire.  Natasha Hauley played for the Youth team despite being under the 17-20 age limit.  Rylan Irwin, Jack Denning and Ryan Maughan played for the Junior Team.  Matches took place against Heavy Woollen (Dewsbury) and Rochdale with the Juniors winning both their matches against Rochdale and  the Youth managed one win against Rochdale.  Full result cards can be found on the Bowlsnet website under the webpages link.  Rylan did particularly well to win his first ever match on his debut at only the tender age of 10, and he had only played one competitive singles game before today.

Tuesday Fixture

Please note that the Ormskirk League fixture on Tuesday against Our Lady’s will be played in the park in Ormskirk as the fixture could not be reversed. It will be a 7pm start.
