AGM Success

Thanks to all those that turned up to the AGM.  It was a great success as we increased our membership by 40%.  We now have 28 members and we should be able to grow that significantly as we move towards getting our greens developed.  Thanks also to the Cricket Club for hosting the meeting.

Plans being developed

Mallinsons have been employed by the Council to carry out a survey of the site and draw up plans and a spec for the 2 new bowling greens, one of which will be an artificial green.  It is expected that this will be completed shortly after Christmas.  The Club’s Committee is also finalising the licence to use the land in discussion with Lancashire County Council and Ormskirk School, who own the land.

Further Success

The Council has now granted a further £40,000 towards the project to build new bowling greens adjacent to Ormskirk Cricket Club. This has come from monies held by the Council to create or improve open space or sports facilities within Derby Ward.  This brings the total money for the project to £176,000.

Good News

The McCarthy & Stone proposal on the Comrades site was given planning approval on the 20th June, subject to the signing of a planning obligation by the developer to provide £136,000 towards a replacement bowling green and associated facilities & admin costs. Money will need to be spent within 5 years or it will default to other open space improvements. The Club’s Committee will now meet with the Council to progress this matter. We are hoping to raise further funds to enable two greens to be built at the same time, one of which would be artificial for year round use.
